Our Programs
NPEF provides support to Newport Public School teachers through
Excellence Grants for projects that would not be funded by the
school department budget. The Foundation encourages educational
and academic initiatives that promote literacy and high standards
of learning. Teachers may request funding for materials, equipment,
and transportation, among other things, for their proposals.
Grants that impact an entire class or grade, have enduring benefit,
and/or involve collaborative teaching are highly regarded. Innovative
approaches in educational projects focusing on Newport are of
particular interest.
NPEF supports the district in the implementation of their
Comprehensive Literacy Plan by generously funding a literacy
volunteer project, BOLD (Books Open Life’s Doors), which
trains and places volunteers, including many NPEF Board members,
in Newport’s neediest elementary schools and supplies
books for these classrooms.
