2006-2007 Excellence Grants

Grants in 2006-2007 were awarded to the following people and groups:

  • The Music and Arts Department for an honors chorus, after school band instrument club, all-city school orchestra, the art club at Rogers, a special art program at Rogers High School, as well as bringing an artist to perform for a “Music For a Lifetime” concert.

  • Physical Education department at Thompson Middle School for heart monitors to be used in the “Fit For Life” program.

  • Melissa Turner at Cranston Calvert School for several literacy programs and a science research program, “Hip Hip Hooray for Narragansett Bay.”

  • Margaret Brennan at Thompson Middle School to support “Making A Difference Science Fair.”

  • Zinovia Canale at Rogers High for a comprehensive ELA program of study about Shakespeare.

  • Mark McKenna at Sullivan School for an after-school Explorer’s Club

  • Jamie Caster at Thompson Middle School for a “Snack Shop” life-skills project.

  • Suzanne Bessin and Amy Kalif at Thompson Middle School and Rogers High School for a inter-school Spanish and writing collaboration, “Fables Espanoles.”

  • NACTC and Richard Niejadlik for creation of a construction project to be used by the Newport Community School camp program.

  • Tracey Hackley at Thompson Middle School to support the Middle STEP Program.

  • Kathleen Bradley and Rebekah Gomez at Cranston Calvert School for an after school math program

  • Sue Moore at Carey School for a “Tackle Your Homework Boxes.”

  • Jane Perry at Carey School and Cranston Calvert for “Can You Eat It?,” an information literacy and science project.

  • Scott Krous at Rogers High School for a Guidance initiative

  • Amy Nicodemus and David Anderson at Thompson Middle School for a study, “Exploring Narragansett Bay.”

  • Cheryl DeMenzes at Thompson Middle School for a life-skills field trip project, “Out Into The World”.

  • Colleen Sullivan at Sullivan School for expanding her “Take Home Book Bags” initiative and also for bringing a theatrical performance, “The Snow Queen,” to her students.

  • Scott Dickison at Rogers High School for “Robotics Returns.”

  • Lori Delemos at Cranston Calvert School for a social studies, science and math study, “Catch The Wind With Kites.”

  • Jennifer Booth at Cranston Calvert School for a social studies, science and math study “Play Ball.”

  • Dave O’Connell at NACTC for a graphics and health program, “Taking Care of Our Community.”

  • Flo Hazen at Rogers High School for a “Proficiency Personalization Program” through the Guidance Department.
