Our Funding
NPEF started with a grant from Raytheon Corporation, as well as a few private donors, to award the first nine Excellence Grants to teachers in the Newport Public Schools.
Today, our funding comes from individual, foundation, and corporate contributions. These donations are welcome and may be general in nature or may be given to support a particular project. An Annual Appeal and United Way donations are significant sources of NPEF income. Sales of the KIDS EXPLORE NEWPORT publication, the Mother’s Day 5K Family Walk/Run, “Newport To A Tea” and Art for Education events also generate revenue streams.
The van Beuren Charitable Foundation recently provided a grant to fund the creation of the first staff position for NPEF. NPEF has also received grants from the Newport County Fund (Rhode Island Foundation) and the McBean Charitable Trust.
NPEF is planning an endowment campaign to provide ongoing support to our grants program. More information soon ...
